Grading Methods
Recognized for our high standards, California Wind Tech uses a modified grading scale to ensure that graduates of our course have been pushed to reach their potential. Therefore, our grading methods apply as detailed below.
Grade Scale
Students must pass each Unit with a minimum grade of a C as defined above unless noted otherwise. Earning below 75% of the total points possible for a Unit is not passing and will result in an Incomplete. A student receiving an Incomplete must make up the Incomplete grade before being awarded California Wind Tech’s Certificate of Completion. Incomplete grades may be made up by retaking quizzes and completing extra credit assignments. In no way can an Incomplete grade be adjusted to any grade higher than a C after having made up deficient points. Points accumulated from Lecture Quizzes and Unit Tests are not weighted. Unit credit from California Wind Tech is nontransferable.
Grade Calculation
Below is an example of a grade calculation to illustrate how grades are determined. Remember that points are not weighted and that grades are assigned using the Grade Scale detailed in our section on Grading Methods.
Example: Student Q completed our Wind Power Systems Unit and received a total score of 145 points out of 170 points on their quizzes and 90 points out of 115 points on their final.
Step 1: Find Student Q’s total points scored. (145 + 90 = 235)
Step 2: Find the total points possible. (170 + 115 = 285)
Step 3: Divide Student Q’s total points by the total points possible. (235/285 = .825)
Step 4: Multiply .825 by 100 to find Student Q’s score in percent. (.825 x 100 = 82.5%)
Step 5: Round up to the nearest whole percentage. (83%)
Step 6: Compare. Judging by our grading scale, Student Q received a B for the unit.
Attendance
Attendance is mandatory for each class and students are expected to arrive on time. If a student cannot avoid an absence, then make up lectures may be scheduled depending on instructors’ availability. Please continue on to learn more about .
